With over 14 years of experience in the small UAS industry, Thomas was a pioneer for the sector. He introduced the first electrically powered multi copter UAS to the US as early as 2006, initiating programs with the FAA, the Department of Justice and the Department of Defense. His early relationship with the FAA yielded progress for the entire industry, among them the first COA ever granted to a small UAS. In the defense sector, Thomas also solicited the first acquisition and deployment of small electrical powered UAS by the US Army under the program Telluride.
With one of the longest track records in the industry, Thomas saw the potential of commercial enterprise applications early. He was a major part of ground-breaking pathfinder and IPP programs with BNSF railway, Walmart and UBER, moving the entire industry forward and paving the way to commercialization on a large scale.
